The crankshaft case is primarily used to house and support the crankshaft and its related transmission components, ensuring the compressor operates normally and efficiently.

Structure and Function:

1. Construction: The crankshaft case is typically designed and manufactured from high-strength materials such as cast iron or cast aluminum, providing sufficient rigidity and strength to withstand the immense mechanical stress and vibrations generated during compression. The crankshaft case is divided into upper and lower parts; the upper crankshaft case, also referred to as the top of the cylinder block, is closely connected to the cylinders, while the lower crankshaft case contains the crankshaft, main bearings, connecting rod bearings, and other transmission devices.

2. Internal Components: Inside the air compressor crankshaft case, key components such as the crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, and bushings are installed. The crankshaft is a critical part that converts the rotational motion of power sources like electric motors or diesel engines into the reciprocating motion of the pistons. The connecting rods link the crankshaft and pistons, working together to complete the gas compression process.

3. Lubrication and Cooling: The crankshaft case also serves the function of storing lubricating oil, ensuring that the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings are adequately lubricated. Some air compressors are equipped with forced lubrication systems, where an oil pump inside the crankshaft case delivers lubricating oil to various parts requiring lubrication. Additionally, the lubricating oil in the crankshaft case absorbs some of the heat generated during compression, providing a certain cooling effect.

4. Ventilation and Emission: To prevent excessive internal pressure in the crankshaft case, modern air compressors are generally equipped with a crankshaft case ventilation system. This system directs steam mixed with lubricating oil and a small amount of escaped gas through the ventilation pipeline to an oil mist separator for treatment, after which it is either recirculated into the system or discharged into the atmosphere.

5. Maintenance and Inspection: The crankshaft case is often designed with inspection windows or access holes, allowing operators to check the condition of the internal lubricating oil and component wear, and to perform necessary maintenance and repairs when required.
